Washington is a state in the United States of America known for its apples, red raspberries, wines, and exotic foods. There are innumerable tourist attractions in the state with something to delight everyone! The capital of the state is Olympia while the largest of its cities is Seattle.


Things to Do in Washington: Seattle Sightseeing


Seattle is known most for its well-developed tech-industry. There are several important museums lining the city, including the Experience Music Project Museum, which is home to rare artefacts and musical instruments; a perfect place, indeed, for music and art lovers! The Museum of Flight houses iconic aircrafts and is considered one of the largest private space and air museums. While in the museum, do visit the Aviation Learning Centre.  


Amongst the places to visit in Washington is the Woodland Park Zoo, an iconic landmark, which has won numerous accolades for its prized exhibits. Spread over 92 acres, the zoo is home to a whopping 60,000 herbs, shrubs, trees, and other floral species. There are nearly 1,090 animals, which belong to about 300 species, which make it a great place for family fun.


A visit to the Space Needle is one of the most important things to do in Washington. This is an observation tower constructed in 1962 and is known as a marvel of engineering as the structure can even stand earthquakes of the magnitude of 9.1! You can even take the elevator to obtain picturesque views of Seattle city from the top.


Washington Sightseeing: Places to Visit in Washington DC


Washington DC needs no introduction. The capital of the United States, this incredible city is home to the White House, which is more than a century old. You could take a tour of the White House absolutely free of charge – this is, without a doubt, amongst the best things to do in Washington DC.


The Lincoln Memorial is one of the most popular American national monuments and pays homage to Abraham Lincoln, the 16th US President. The 19 feet tall statue of the President is worth seeing. The monument remains open all 24 hours for the public. 


The National Museum of Natural History was constructed in 1910 and aims to raise awareness of the natural world. A visit to the Insect Zoo is highly recommended!  The museum also houses the infamous Hope Diamond, which is believed to be cursed.


The National Mall is a convenient central point to visit most of the Washington tourist hotspots.   The Mall houses the Washington Monument, the National Gallery of Art, and the US Botanic Garden along with memorials and national monuments.


Other Places to Visit in Washington


The San Juan Islands are an important tourist attraction in Washington and are accessible via a ferry ride. You can revel in the flavours of seafood or visit the art galleries on the island. You can also visit the Puget Sound area, which is a great place to observe Orca Whales swimming. Washington sightseeing is incomplete without a visit to the Glass Museum of Tacoma, which is home to breathtakingly beautiful glass art specimens.
